Chinthes in the
ABA
TITLE OF “BANDO CHINTHE”
The Chinthe is an ancient mythical, mystical, magical and spiritual being that protected and guarded the temples of Burma for more than 2000 years, and this symbol has long been loved by the people of Myanmar. In WW2, the name “Chinthe” was also the origin of the name for the Burma Rifles, and they were called the “Chindits”. Similarly, over the span of the past 50 years, many Bando leaders in the United States have provided invaluable service to the ABA.
By decree of Grandmaster Dr. U Maung Gyi, the people listed below are hereby given the title of “Bando Chinthe” – protector and preserver of Bando in the United States.
